prince george’s county hope hub

prince george’s county, md. gut RENOVATION (design and feasibility).

With LOHM we proposed a community center that establishes a resource and support network between formerly incarcerated individuals and the communities they will return to. The design goals for this project are as follows:

  1. Catalyze the transition from prison with sustainable and connected built environments.

  2. Create collaborative communities.

  3. Provide safe and supportive environments.

  4. Provide opportunities for social interaction.

  5. Provide sharing resources and access to programming and facilities.

  6. Provide connection and purpose.

For this location, the design takes advantage of the existing building form with interventions in the ripples and stained glass, which represent movement and growth of the women coming home. The ripples are more of a physical representation of this growth, while the stained glass is representative of the spiritual side of the journey. The butterfly motif, a symbol of transformation and growth, is playfully present throughout the project.
