D/A worked with Grassroots Grocery, a non-profit that advances food justice by cultivating a community of neighbors helping neighbors. The collaboration is a result of two years of thoughtful design studies, community engagement, and careful coordination to provide a new structure that supports the on-going effort to provide dignified food access and fresh food to the community.

The proposed refrigerator enclosure design offers solutions to the current enclosure’s shortfalls, addresses community feedback, and provides more durability, flexibility, and accessibility for the upper east side and neighborhoods across the city. different frame colors, when paired with the grassroots grocery branding provide an opportunity for each fridge to be unique, while still part of a collective design. Each fridge kiosk is designed to accommodate a unique combination of modules to suit the needs of each community it is located within.
