anew model for hope

philadelphia, pa. community engagement and gut renovation (design and feasibility).

this project was the architectural component of a series of recommendations and provocations for an existing transitional facility for women run by the department of corrections in Pennsylvania. in partnership with the ladies of hope ministries, and following a series of focus groups with women in prison, we developed a concept that retrofitted an existing 40,200 sf carceral building into one that could be part of a larger reentry program beyond the boundaries of the existing campus.

reimagining anew model for hope

we propose a new model that establishes a resource and support network between women in the prison system transition centers and the communities they will return.

a borderless approach

resources and programs may be provided through on-campus partnerships and at partner locations locally (<1 hour drive) and in the greater city region.

a human centric approach

the campus is reimagined with indoor and outdoor spaces that encourage residents to express a full range of emotions in a healthy way with the support and engagement of surrounding communities and partnerships for a successful reentry.
